Good dental health is established early in life. Oral care should begin soon after the baby’s birth. Pediatric dentistry deals with children from the time of birth to the adolescence. At Rudra healthcare, we are extensively concerned about prevention, which include instructions about proper diet, sugar intake, use of fluoride and good oral hygiene maintenance. Sometimes what the parents think is that the child is having milk teeth and its not important to save milk teeth as eventually permanent teeth are going to erupt. This is the very wrong attitude for your child’s oral care.

Milk teeth are as important as permanent teeth as they maintain there space for permanent teeth to erupt. If there is caries in the milk teeth [decidous teeth] then it can cause infection in the permanent teeth if not treated on time.

How can we prevent caries in children?

It is a single sitting procedure done once every 6 months t make the tooth structure stronger and prevents cavities.

What are pit and fissure sealants?

Pit and fissure sealants are the type of filling material which is filled on the chewing surface of the teeth, in cases of deep ‘grooves’ and ‘pits’ present on the surface of the teeth [mainly molars and premolars]. This prevents any food accumulation on the surface of the teeth and thus prevents cavities. It generally requires single sitting to do the procedure and is totally painless.

What is fluoride application done?

Fluoride application in a single sitting procedure done twice every year to prevent cavities in the teeth. In this the fluoride is used in gel form in a tray and is placed on the teeth for few minutes. Or a brush is used to apply the fluoride on all the teeth. Its a simple single sitting procedure and is totally painless.

What is child RCT or pulpectomy /pulpotomy?

it is done in deeply carious teeth which involves pulp [nerves and vessels]. In case there is pain in a tooth due to cavities, then there is need of pulpotomy/ pulpectomy to be done to save the tooth and relieve the pain. It is often advised to get the crown done after the treatment so that the tooth is saved till the time the permanent tooth erupts. At Rudra healthcare we check for decays and other problems. We will also teach you how to clean your child’s mouth and will instruct you if there will be need for some diet modifications.
